Ayurvedic Massage

Ayurveda is a holistic medical system originating in India and covers all aspect of health and wellbeing: physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. The philosophy of Ayurveda is linked to ancient texts the Vedas.

One of the fundamental concepts is that all matters in the Universe is composed of five elements: Air, Fire, Water and Space which combine inside the human body in varying combinations to form three Doshas (biological forces) Vata, Pitta and Kapha. These doshas, fixed at conception, form the basis of our physical constitution, mental capacities and emotions. All three doshas are present in all persons, but their proportion varies from individual to individual. Hence each individual is unique and cannot be compared to any other individual.

Ayurveda views the balance of Doshas as health and their imbalance as disease. To keep the Doshas (elements) in balance and enjoy physical, mental and emotional wellbeing Ayurveda prescribes (suggests) five different treatments:

  1. Herbs and herbal remedies.
  2. Food and diet.
  3. Ayurvedic massage and body work.
  4. Yoga exercises.
  5. Daily life style routine.
